Super Estrellas WWC 12.28.2019 TV Review

  • Your hosts are Luis Toledo and Victor Rivera.

  • Toledo welcomes us to the show and runs down the WWC Euphoria He also says that today we will start seeing some of the stuff from their previous big event, WWC LockOut, including the live Carlito’s Cabana with Eddie and Orlando Colon as guests.

  • Carlito’s Cabana

Carlito welcomes us to this live edition of the Cabana. He wishes a merry Christmas and happy new year to all of the fans and says that he hates talking about his problems in public or through social media, but since his attempts to deal with this in private have been ignored, this is the way it has to be. He says there are problems and animosity in his family and that is why his guest is Eddie Colon. Eddie comes out slowly and acting out.

We are clipped to Carlito going the big brother route and reminding Eddie that family comes first, family should be respected, and family should stick together, because when you are down, family is what helps you back up. If you don’t want to do it for me or for the fans, then do it for the old man. Eddie cuts him off and says Carlito is a hypocrite and he is full of crap. He says he will reveal the truth of his “big brother” (he did air quotes) so that people know who he really is. Number one, when we where in WWE and I thought you had our back and we had your support, you left us. You left because things were not going your way and, in your world, there is only one thing that matters and that is Carlito. You only looked out for yourself and left us, you didn’t care about what would happen to us or the consequences your actions would have in our careers. (There are some sound issues as he has problems with the microphone, and I can’t understand what he said last). Second, you talk about family and brotherhood, but remember, who was that turned his back on me first? Years ago, back when I went to visit you at OVW, you and your guys beat me up, threw me out like a bag of trash. You and I nearly killed each other in the ring and drove our family apart, causing pain to the “old man” and all because of you. Like I said, you are a hypocrite and full of crap. You want to take the high road, the moral high ground, but you don’t have a leg to stand on. You and Orlando both, you where rudos (heels) and did as you pleased, but not Eddie because Eddie was the good boy, the nice man, the idiot who everyone took for granted. And everyone held me back and everyone underestimated my talent. Well, not anymore. Nobody will ever hold me back because I am free. Carlito says something I don’t understand well because of the sound issues but it seems it has to do with setting a bad example for the kids in the front row who admired him. Eddie tells him to shut his mouth because he doesn’t know what he is talking about and calls Carlito a “tecato” (basically a junkie, playing back on Carlito’s wellness policy violations that led to his firing from WWE).

Carlito drops the mic as Eddie takes his jacket off. They square off and before they go at the music of “Soy Boricua” blares over the speakers, the theme song of Carlos Colon, the patriarch of the Colon family. However, it turns out to be a distraction for Gilbert to ambush Carlito. Gilbert beats him down as Eddie just leaves like nothing is going on. He then returns to the ring and fakes a change of heart, only to help Gilbert beat Carlito down. They toss him out of the ring and leave together, posing and insulting the Colon family. Great segment! The Eddie Colon promo was fire, calling Carlito out on all his bullshit and acting like a great heel. The best heels have some justification to their actions and Eddie’s promo felt like a half-shoot and makes me mark out and agree with some of his points here and I am sure the fans did too.

  • From WWC LockOut: Xix Xavant comes out for his open challenge, cutting off Gigante Nihan and Juan Manuel Ortega who were out there for some reason that was never explained. Xavant says he made an open challenge, and no one has been brave enough to accept it. He says that since Nihan and Ortega are standing out there like idiots, maybe one of them wants to man up, step into the ring and get their face broken. He says he is the best wrestler in Puerto Rico and every single fan sitting in those seats needs to be afraid of him just like every single wrestler in that locker room. He goes back to Nihan and Ortega and tells them to check if any of them have the balls to face him. The announcers finally mention that Nihan has just finished a match and it would not be wise to step into the ring with a fresh Xavant. Nihan was about to step into the ring when Xavant says Nihan just had a match and shouldn’t complete twice in one night, so he wants “the loud-mouthed” Ortega to accept the challenge. Ortega, who is dressed in a suit like all managers, steps into the ring and takes his jacket off.

Match 1: Juan Manuel Ortega / with Gigante Nihan vs Xix Xavant

Of course, Xavant ambushes Ortega and beats him up in the corner. He drops Ortega with a short-arm clothesline and stomps him around the ring. Now he rips Ortega’s shirt off and continues the methodical beatdown while mocking and insulting Nihan. He blindly charges into the corner and eats boots, then charges again and Ortega moves. Ortega with a nice sequence of dropkicks! He has a better dropkick than half the roster. Xavant blocks a third dropkick and goes back on the offensive. Fallaway Slam followed by a sitting gutbuster ends Ortega as Xavant takes the easy pinfall win.

Winner by pinfall: Xix Xavant (2:19) Rating: N/R Too short to be rated but Ortega surprised me with a few good dropkicks and Xavant squashed him like he should have. I hope this whole open challenge angle leads to someone’s debut/return and a good feud for Xavant, although having him and Nihan work against each other won’t be the worse thing that can happen.

  • Post-match Xavant tries to continue the beatdown but Nihan steps into the ring and asks Xavant to try and do that to him. Xavant wisely steps away.

Match 2: WWC Puerto Rican Heavyweight Title: Pedro Portillo III is banned from ringside:

Bellito Calderon vs Mighty Ursus ©

This is from WWC LockOut as well. They stall for a bit as Portillo makes a big production out of being forced to leave and the entire ref crew comes out to see him out.

Bell rings and Bellito is all “house on fire” on Ursus with the right hands, but Ursus says “fuck that” and gives Bellito an overhead belly to belly suplex into the corner! He picks him up a second time and does it again! That’s it, he is dead. He doesn’t even bother to cover him and instead gives him a nasty Belly to Back Suplex and then drops a legdrop. The announcers are saying Ursus is taking out his frustrations on Bellito for Portillo being banned form ringside and that Bellito’s career might be over after this match. Ursus begs Bellito to get up as he starts coming alive and crawling for the ropes. Ursus just chokes him in the ropes and hammers him across the ring. Irish whip, but Bellito goes under a clothesline, only to eat a Sideslam for a two count. Ursus slows things down with the dreaded nervehold. Bellito fights back but an eye gouge stops him in his tracks and the ref warns Ursus. Bellito to the corner, Ursus blindly charges and eats boots. Bellito to the ropes but gets caught in a flapjack as we head to commercial.

When we come back Ursus has Bellito on the ground in a headlock. Bellito fights back and escapes. He goes to the ropes, goes under a couple of clotheslines, Ursus with the backdrop but Bellito lands on his feet. Big DDT! Ursus gets back up and eats a codebreaker! Ursus still on his feet and this time Bellito drops him with Trouble in Paradise. Bellito to the top rope: Frog Splash! 1-2..NO! The crowd is on fire and airhorns blast over the arena. Bellito with right hands and staggers Ursus with a springboard forearm. He goes for another one but slips and hurts his knee! It looked like a legit slip, but it seems it’s an angle as Ursus immediately goes to work on that leg and even rips his kneepad off. The match slows down as Ursus works the leg, hammers Bellito all over the ring and then grabs a headlock for good measure. Bellito fights back to his feet but gets body slammed back down. Ursus goes for a running splash but Bellito moves out of the way (they botched it and Bellito almost gets pancaked as he was rolling away). Bellito with the double-stomp to the back and hurts his knee like an idiot. I hate that spot, why does the babyface always make the idiotic move? Both men are down as referee Windy Saez (and her giant ass) counts them both down.

Both men back up as Bellito takes over with right hands. He staggers Ursus who cuts it off with a big knee to the gut. He goes for a suplex, but Bellito slips out, only to land on the bad leg and Ursus clotheslines him down in a semi-botched spot. I have no idea if Ursus was going for a Final Cut-style move and they botched it or if Bellito botched the landing and Ursus covered for him. Either way it came out better than it should have. Ursus with a big clothesline out of an irish whip and he drags Bellito to the corner. He is going for the Vader Bomb, but Bellito gets up and nails him on the back with the Pele (completely ignoring the bad leg) then remembers to hobble his way up the top rope: Top Rope Double-Stomp! Of course, he hurts his leg AGAIN! Bellito manages to get back to his feet as the ref is checking on Ursus. Pedro Portillo dressed like a photographer sneaks in with a set of brass knuckles and nails Bellito behind the ref’s back. BULLSHIT! He sneaks out and continues pretending to be recording the match. Ursus recovers, nails the big Abby Running Elbowdrop and gets the pinfall win.

Winner by pinfall and STILL WWC Puerto Rican Heavyweight Champion: Mighty Ursus (13:50 shown)   Rating: *** A perfectly good match ruined by more bullshit interference. A few blown spots and some gaps in psychology aside, the match was rock-solid, Bellito and Ursus both looked good and then the whole Portillo thing comes into play and ruins it. What is the point of banning him from ringside only to have him show up anyway? I am sure this was done to set up a blow-off in a steel cage or something but come on!

Lo Que Esta Pasando en WWC (What’s Happening in WWC):

  • We see a video call between Rey Gonzalez and Konnan in which they talk about old times and Rey says he needs a good opponent for Orlando Colon at WWC Euphoria, someone with championship pedigree and a worldwide name, someone who is real competition. Konnan says he has someone in mind. That someone is Texano Jr.

  • We cut to a promo with Texano Jr. He says he is the greatest Mega Champion in AAA history and he is coming to Puerto Rico to take the WWC Universal Title from Orlando Colon. He is taking the gold and bringing it back to Mexico with him.

The Final Word: 7.0/10   Between the excellent Carlito’s Cabana segment that made Eddie Colon into my new favorite heel and the excellent match between Bellito and Mighty Ursus, even if I hated the finish, we had a great show this week. Xavant’s open challenge segment with Ortega turned him into a great bully as well and I look forward to his eventual clash with Gigante Nihan. Thumbs up for this episode of Super Estrellas WWC.
